Happy Wednesday everyone! I'm excited to introduce today's guest artist: Andrea Wiebe.
She's long been an inspiration to me and I'm so happy that she agreed to share a little piece of inspiration here on Cartwheels. :D
If you don't know Andrea's work, you can find it at www.ajourneysofar.blogspot.com.
And just for fun, here's a random fact about her: I'm a total "suzy homemaker"...I love to cook, bake, sew, even clean! That isn't very interesting LOL! I am afraid of birds but that sounds creepy!
And with that, here's her tutorial for you today:
Holiday Post Card Tutorial
When I saw these mini coat hangers I knew I had to use them in my holiday décor! They are so terrific to hang just about anywhere and would make a sweet gift. I decided that I’d make holiday postcards to hang on mine!
1. Yoyo Card
supplies:
small piece of fabric (at least enough to use for a 6 1/2 inch circle)
button
embroidery floss
red and white bakers twine
assorted pattern paper
letter stamps
letter stickers
ink
mini clothes hanger
tools:
scissors
needle and thread
paper trimmer
small circle punch
Measure a 6 1/2 inch circle on fabric and cut out. Thread needle and knot end, stitch a running stitch around the perimeter of your fabric circle. Once you've gone around pull thread snugly to form a yoyo and sew a button in the center. Flatten yoyo and blanket stitch around the outside perimeter with embroidery floss.
Trim a piece of pattern paper to measure 3 3/4 by 5 3/4, ink edges and attach yoyo (I stitched mine to the paper or you could use adhesive if you'd like)
Stamp the letters "be" and punch out with a small circle punch. Thread the letters onto a piece of bakers twine and make a mini banner.
Add some "merry" letters to your ornament.
Trim a piece of co-ordinating pattern paper to measure 4 X 6 and ink edges. Mount the "be merry" piece onto 4 X 6 pattern paper. (I added a jewel heart onto my banner string).
Attach a mini coat hanger to your card.
2. Paper Quilt Card
supplies:
small piece of cereal box
pattern paper
cardstock
adhesive
tissue paper
ink
embroidery floss
buttons
glue dots
tape
tools:
1 inch circle punch
mini tag punch
paper trimmer
scissors
needle and thread
Cut a ¾” square out of chipboard cereal box and punch 28 1 inch circles. Place square in centre of circle and fold edges of each circle.
Cut a piece of cardstock to measure 3 ¼ X 5 5/8. Apply adhesive to entire front and attach circles.
Stamp “most wonderful” and punch out with mini tag punch, set aside.
Cut a piece of tissue paper to measure 1 ¼ X 6 and fold in half horizontally; cut triangles out, set aside.
Trim 3 pieces of embroidery floss to measure 10 inches. Thread a needle onto one of your pieces and thread buttons through floss. Attach to the centre of your post card using tape at the back to secure.
Attach 2 other pieces of embroidery floss to the front of your post card; one on top and one beneath the buttons.
Attach tissue paper triangles to the embroidery floss to make a mini banner.
Using a sharp needle and thread string on “most wonderful” and attach to card.
Cut a piece of cardstock to measure 3 ¾ X 6 and mount card onto it.
Attach a mini coat hanger to your card.
Lots of love and blessings,
Andrea.
