Growing up without a TV meant that there was alot of outdoor imagination play at our house, but we also did our share of listening to stories and reading books...and one of our favorite things on a snowy winter day was to all lie in the living room and listen to my mom's old record player. We didn't have tons of records to choose from (mostly just old gospel singing or children's books on tape) so the ones we did have we got to know so well that there are some that we can all still recite word for word when the topic comes up when our family is all together.
And because of those memories with my siblings, I get such a happy nostalgic feeling whenever I see a vinyl record or old player. There is just something amazing about hearing the scratch of the needle just before the magic begins...and that's why this month's theme is GIRL PUT YOUR RECORDS ON. Throughout the month, we are going to take a musical theme and try to put a few inspired twists on it. And although the theme came to me through memories of our old record player, we aren't going to limit it to just records. Let's find inspiration through cassette tapes, ipods, musical lyrics and even instruments.
Music has such a huge influence on the world, from technology to lyrics to the legends that have brought it to us over the years. And let's celebrate all of them this month!
Don't forget to share your art with us through the flickr gallery...and remember: the design team call is still on if you'd like to join our team! Just send me an e-mail with your 2 favorite art projects and your blog link! (you can find more information about it here.)
