Tis the season...for summer travel and that's what we'll be focusing on this edition of Happy Everything.
It's not a new idea to create a book to fill while you're away on a trip, but I thought I would share that it truly is a fun way to document your travels and show you what I have planned for my family trip this summer.
Back in 2008 I made a book to fill on a road trip from our home here in Southern California to Iowa and back. We made a big loop and went through numerous states so that is how I organized my book...each state got a section.
Each night as we settled into our hotel room I would talk a few minutes to punch holes in the memorabilia we gathered throughout the day (things like postcards from truck stops, receipts from the good meals we shared and brochures picked up along the way) and then I would write about our day. When I got home I ordered photos, stuck them in and the book was done.
This year we are taking a two week road trip of the Pacific Northwest so I have made another book. I am using the same type of binder album, but a larger 8x8 size. This time I have decided on a bit more streamlined design.
I put together a simple journaling page for each day that I'll be able to include photos on the back of. I used a mix of patterned paper as a divider for each day of the trip and hand stamped the number on a digital element that I resized and printed out.
On the back of the title page I did some journaling about our plans and what we're looking forward to during the seventeen days we'll be gone.
I also made up little cards to include throughout the book with the extra special memories...the moments from the trip that really standout.
I am excited to pack up my hole punch and a pile of pens for journaling. I plan on asking my husband and my son to help fill the book with their favorite memories too.
I have a PDF to share of my "Today" journaling page in case you'd like to use it for a summer book you're putting together. Download Today Journaling Paper
Hope you're enjoyed this little journey through my travel scrapbooking plans. I'm sending wishes for safe travels and lots of summer fun.
Thanks so much for posting this today. We are leaving on vacation tomorrow and I printed out the journaling cards and put them in page protectors - at least the journaling part will be done when i get home. I can also had the memorabilia in the protectors too at the end of each day. I am ahead of the game in my book. Wish I had time to get the book ready like you did it is beautiful. Did you make the highlight pages digitally or stamp them?
