Applause. Applause.
Join me in welcoming our first featured designer, the fabulous Doris Sander! Doris, who hails from Nashville, TN, designs for American Crafts, is the marketing director for Jenni Bowlin Studio and also does a little teaching at Get It Scrapped!.
She has been arting for about seven years now and her art has evolved into a wonderment of inspiration and creativity! So let’s get to know this dandy designer a little more:
What motivates you to create? And what KEEPS you motivated?
I love the artistic expression and emotional investment of scrapbooking. I also enjoy the friendship and support I get from others like me both locally and online. I think rubbing elbows with other creative souls plays a large role in keeping me motivated and keeping my mojo flowing.
What is one technique you find yourself using over & over?
It has become harder and harder to scrap without my sewing machine lately. I've just gotten to the point where I feel most layouts aren't quite finished without a little stitching on them.
How about one product you use lots?
I'm an embellishment driven scrapper. I usually find myself reaching for a handful of circular bits to polish off a project. You'll find buttons and decorative brads on almost everything I do.
What
do you do to help get yourself through a creative block?
Cruising through some of my favorite
galleries usually gets me in the mood to create. Unfortunately, I often
do my surfing when I have no time to scrap! Oh the frustration!
What's
going on in your art space while you create?
My scrap space is smack dab in the middle of all the action. I used to sing along with the Wiggles and Backyardigans, but now that the little guy is a big kindergarten graduate, we spend more time with Chowder and iCarly.
The only subscription I still carry is Martha Stewart Living, but I find myself picking up Somerset publications more and more lately. I am always inspired by the art I see in them.
Finish this quote: When It rains…
I throw the back door open and soak it in. I was born and raised in Florida where the liquid sunshine falls at 3:00 pm every afternoon in the summer. I love, love, LOVE the rain. After the rain, of course, there are puddles to play in; even our kitties get in on the fun.
What’s your guilty pleasure? Coke. Coca-Cola Classic. The regular non-diet
kind. It is more like an addiction. I am currently in therapy.
What
do you do when you first wake up?
Hit the snooze button! Unless it's
summer vacation and then I stretch, smile, and snuggle further down
under the covers.
Who Do You Love?
My son. To love a child is everything.
Of course I am enjoying Cartwheels! and I'm always excited when I see a new update from one of the JBS designers. Sharyn Tormanen is like my morning cup of coffee (or Coke I should say). Karen Russell and Jamie Waters just make me happy and Rebecca Sower is beyond inspiring. Who doesn't read Pioneer Woman? I could go on and on. I love blogs!
What’s on your iPod?
I don't own one. I almost bought one from one of my high school students once, but just in time my naive self realized it was probably hotter than I wanted to handle. If I do get one, I will have cool people like Kelly Purkey and Kerry Lynn Yeary load it for me. Then I'll throw on a little old school Indigo Girls and Green Day. Then some really old school Jackson Browne. I really love him.Morning or night?
The natural biorhythm for me and the Gman is staying up till midnight or so and sleeping in till as close to 10 as we can manage. I guess that would make us night owls. The 7:15 school bell is very very painful for us.
On my day off…
I sleep in.
Travel
dreams...
I used to think I'd like to visit all the Spanish speaking countries in my lifetime. So far I've hit Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Mexico, and Honduras. I've got a lot of traveling left to do.
Don't miss out on all of Doris's
creativity! Check out her blog and get a peek into her everyday life while
you're at it!
xo.

I just recently found Doris' blog myself and immediately signed up as a follower. Now I'm so happy you've done this interview with her so I can gain a bit more insight into her personality and creative process. I just love her style to bits!!
