I am, by nature, a very visual person. Everywhere I go, everything I see, inspires me to create art. In fact, there are times when I'm at the mall or zoo or even the grocery and am so overwhelmed with inspiration that all I want to do is go home right away and create art. Unfortunately, there are also times when I have the time to do art but can't think of one single thing that I really want to create. So instead of giving up and not working on any art that day, I like to do what I like to call "jumpstart art"...which is art based on the things I love most about creating. In my case, I love rainbow colors, song lyrics and journaling an entire layout using letter stickers. I also usually have a little technique or favorite product that I am currently so in love with or have been dying to use that I throw in as well.
For this scrapbook layout, I represented the rainbow color scheme I love so much in the photo, used Doodlebug and Making Memories letter stickers to journal the song lyrics that the photo reminded me of and finally used those amazing Me And My Big Ideas flourish stickers that I bought awhile back just because they reminded me of wings. Throw in a few layered Jenni Bowlin butterfly stickers (possibly my favorite scrapbook stickers of all time!) and I had a layout that was "so Cheryl" in just 20 minutes. And the best part? I was so inspired that I created 2 more layouts and a fun pair of earrings afterward before forcing myself to quit for the night.
What inspires you to create? I'd love to see your version of a jumpstart art piece! In fact, If you join the Cartwheels flickr group and share your art with all of us, I'll share some here on the blog AND send out a super cool give-away box of SEI's Jacolyn collection to a randomly drawn poster.
In the meantime, here's a super fun layout that was posted in the flickr gallery this weekend by CurlyWiggles. I love the design and the whole feel of the photo and product mix...so inspiring!
Don't forget to sign up for the flickr group! We will be closing the drawing on Thursday evening so that we can announce the winner on Friday. I also wanted to mention that I started a post over there where you can ask any questions you have for me or the team about the site or art in general or pretty much anything. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Peace and Inspiration,
Cheryl
P.S. I'll be back later today with a new design team member reveal and an entire post dedicated solely to the fabulous art and life of Jennifer Johner!
